I Can’t Believe I Watched the Whole Thing. I had heard all the hype. Watched a trailer. I gotta say, there was nothing about this movie that had any appeal for me. But after the Historic Win, the speeches, the deluge of accolades, I was determined to watch it, for no other reason than to confirm my gut feeling that it would not be a movie I would like. It took me, like four or five days to get through the whole thing. It had some clever, funny moments, but for the most part, I found it excruciating and monotonous in the way that most action-adventure movies are excruciating and monotonous. I love Michelle Yeoh. She’s a talented actress but Oscar Best Actress? For this movie? I thought Ke Huy Quan’s real life backstory was so much more compelling and interesting than the film’s plodding plot. To me it’s an emperor with no clothes but the Academy is too busy clapping itself on the back with pride over its inclusivity to notice. Have you seen All Quiet on the Western Front? Now THAT was a masterpiece.
