I liked NYPD Blue and Homicide when they came out. I never had a soft spot for Sipowicz though. I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on The Wire. I thought David Simon's writing was the best and most honest portrayal out of any TV series. Michael K. Williams - I feel like I carry a part of him with me. All of the characters in The Wire seemed fully flushed out human beings to me - even Stringetr Bell. Really strong Black characters that felt like real people - some were opportunists who mirrored the corporate, capitalist greater society as a whole (Stringer Bell could have been a Fortune 500 exec in another life). The corner boys were neighborhood kids. Webei's kid was smart, sweet, funny - not cut out for the game. D'Angelo - could have been president or anything in life if he hadn't been murdered. Bunny - the Captain of the Western District was a genius. He should have been Drug Czar under Obama.
I been watching Truth Be Told. Most of the cast is Black and the characters are not used as props or sidekicks. They are full front and center - warts and all. The women are smart and powerful and not to be messed with.
