If the 21st century proves anything it’s that if we continue on our path of rapacious consumption of resources and destruction of the environment, we will face extinction as so many species have, both in the past and currently. It’s only human arrogance that allows us to assume that we somehow aren’t bound by the laws of nature and physics. Religion does have a purpose in that it provides psychological relief from the awareness of our morality, even though it’s a form of delusion.
