Mia, I was being sarcastic. I totally agree with you that white people have absolutely benefited from a system of racism baked into the fabric of American society. We can’t make America Great Again because we were never great to begin with. I read some of Roost’s pieces. She seems to be genuinely addressing some of these issues in her work. She submitted a pitch to a publication that had no interest in her views as a white woman. Fine. She received a nasty response from the publication’s editor. Unnecessary, when a simple, “Thanks for your interest, however we are not accepting submissions at this time” generic response would have been a sufficient fuck off. But, okay — fine. So having received the kind of response guaranteed to ruin anyone’s day, she gripes about it in a private Facebook group. And for that crime, her career is destroyed. So maybe she mistakenly sent her pitch to the wrong publication because of the acronym mix-up. I would at the very least want to give her the benefit of the doubt — uh, sorry but you’re in the wrong room: the room you’re looking for is down the hall to your left. But let’s just say she knew it was a platform for WOC to express their views and she stupidly submitted her pitch anyway, because, as an advocate, she stupidly thought she was on the same side. In response, she receives a metaphoric brick in the face and because, Social Media, what begins as an exchange between an editor and a freelance writer quickly escalates into a viral mob frenzy that can only be placated by total annihilation. Hence, my extreme sarcasm. No, I do not think she deserves to be stoned in the public square. I see no value from the editor’s response, which served to punish, not educate. But even that wasn’t enough of a bloodletting. No, she had to be crushed.
