Obama did nothing to help these people??? Obama cleaned up the mess made by the previous occupant of the White House and then helped build a robust economy. Obama brought affordable health care to millions of people. Obama tried to help "these people" even as they spat in his face and questioned his citizenship. Did "these people" have the right to be angry? Of course they did. We all had plenty to be angry about. But their anger was misdirected. Instead of channelling that anger at Senate obstructionists who wielded their power to effectively block any kind of progress that could have improved their circumstances, they took the bait peddled by right wing media conglomerates and soulless politicians whose agenda was to further the interests of the corporate billionaires who owned them. They made the perfect rubes in all the ways that every tried and true populist autocratic demagogue has ever utilized.

Instead of uniting with the majority of Americans in an effort to address the issues of income inequality, access to affordable health care, wage stagnation, food deserts, crumbling infrastructure, housing insecurity, student loan debt, and on and on and on - the concerns of all Americans minus the 1%, they chose to get suckered in by a two-bit, incompetent, unintelligible, syphilitic grifter who appealed to their nihilism and their belief in the superiority of their skin color. And after 4 years of having to suffer through a president whose demonstrable talents are limited to bullying, lying on a colossal scale that would have impressed Hitler, and functioning as a giant disease vector, "these people" have doubled down. At this point, whether "these people" are racists or morons, or racists and morons is entirely irrelevant: they voted for a racist moron who managed to inflict more damage in just four years stinking up the Oval Office than any previous occupant, including Martin Van Buren and Andrew Jackson — damage that will take years if not decades to undo.

I allowed myself 48 hours to feel euphoric and relieved after hearing of Biden’s victory. I have exactly 1 hour and five minutes remaining before reality sets in: A Supreme Court straight out of the pages of the Handmaid’s Tale with the most recent appointment of Aunt Lydia and 185 Trump-appointed federal judges, Mitch McConnell, who has already stated that he will not cooperate with the Biden administration, GOP state legislatures that have remained intact, added GOP seats in the House, a global pandemic that has killed more than 238,000 American citizens thanks to the incompetence of the incumbent and the ignorance of his supporters, and an economy worse off than after the crash of 2009. I’m under no illusion that the next 4 years of dealing with the other side of the aisle will be anything other than Obama 2.0 doused in all of the aforementioned obstructionist special sauce. As long as we stick to the antiquated electoral college system of voting, we won’t have much luck breaking the gridlock and the nation will be held hostage by a mafia elected by a bunch of tinfoil hat-wearing cult worshippers who believe their delusional opinions hold the same weight as facts.

I wish there was a giant can of Raid that could make “these people” magically disappear, but since that’s not going to happen, I will use my now 45 remaining minutes to read, post, like and share memes celebrating the end of the reign of the giant orange boil on the fat ass of America. I’m looking forward to January and the stream of live footage showing DCFD hosing Trump out of the White House.
