Oh. My. God. This is the first time I’ve heard anyone reference this film since I saw it in 1989 in the art house theater in Managua, Nicaragua. It was in Russian with Spanish subtitles, called Anda y Ve, which means Go and See. I remember Tomas Borje, the feared head of State Security and one of the 9 Sandinista comandantes was sitting in the row in front of me. I will never forget that film. It reminded me of Jerzy Kosiński’s novel, The Painted Bird, which I read at far too young an age. I had to walk out of the last 5 minutes of Go and See. My father is a Holocaust survivor and I was starting to hyperventilate.

I thought the film adaptation of The Road was quite good. I read the book. I have read all of Cormac McCarthy’s books. I’m hoping someone finally makes Blood Meridian into a movie.

I would add these to your list of one and done:

Frances

The Killing Fields

The Elephant Man

Requiem For a Dream

Sophie’s Choice

I’ve never seen Threads, but it definitely sounds like my kind of film.

Man, I still can’t believe you mentioned Come and See. Or that some dude left a comment about only wanting to see action movies. I’d rather have root canal than sit through an action film. Talk about dull.

Photography, you have always been a jealous bride. I will always love you — I’m just no longer in love.
