Radical Islam is a major problem but religious Zionism is not? The majority of Israelis may have been ready to accept a two state solution but a minority with an egregiously outsized influence that has highjacked your government is not. You conveniently skip over a big chunk of recent history, like the assassination of Rabin by Yigal Amir because of his plan for a two state solution. Or the fact that Netanyahu sidelined moderate Palestinian politicians who did recognize Israel and its right to exist. Bezalel Smoltrich and Itamar Ben Gvir - how are they any different from Hamas? What happened to Labor? Out of 120 seats in the Knesset, they hold only four seats. Netanyahu’s coalition government is made up of religious and ultranationalist Zionists and their ideological agendas are adamantly opposed to a two state solution. As a matter of fact, they wanted this war. The hostages may be victims of Hamas but as every unconditionally pro-Israel excuse maker has pointed out: Hamas is a terrorist organization. Israel is the purported “stable democracy,” so maybe it’s time to consider how decades of Likud, illegal settler occupation and expansion, and tolerance of Israeli extremism brought us to this moment. Radical Islam, Hindu nationalism, Christian white supremacy, religious Zionism - they are all the same thing with only superficial differences in costumes and headwear. As usual, the rot comes from within.
