“The strongest motivator in life is survival and the survival of the species.” Great point, exactly! Which is why many species, including humans have throughout time killed or aborted their young to ensure, rather than jeopardize the survival of their existing offspring. This is quite common behavior, especially in wolves and lions — pack animals that live in complex social hierarchies. Evolution and survival of the fittest is a long game. You seem to be willfully missing her point entirely: she posits that while women have given birth under similar, or even worse conditions as those portrayed in the movie, their pregnancies were unlikely to have all been by choice. I saw A Quiet Place. I enjoyed it. It was entertaining, like picking at an existential scab, as I have always been both fascinated and terrified by post apocalyptic scenarios. Aside from that, I didn’t see any other deeper baked-in message and neither does the writer. She is simply responding to the politicizing of the film by anti-abortionists to further their ideological agenda, dismantling their specious arguments neatly and with great thought.

Photography, you have always been a jealous bride. I will always love you — I’m just no longer in love.
