There was an excellent piece on Throughline this past Sunday about the greed, corruption, and misery associated with the introduction of the banana to US consumers. I spent 3 years in Central America, so I already knew all about the United Fruit Company and it’s involvement in the region. I was surprised that I didn’t know much about its earlier involvement in Panama and Colombia.
